Has solid speed and quickness to get away from defenders and will receive many opportunities to make plays in Samford’s new offensive scheme . . . will be a vital leader and member of the Bulldogs’ expanded corps of receivers.

2000 (Junior): Was one of the most improved players coming out of spring practice . . . played in every game for the Bulldogs, adding quality depth at wide receiver . . . also contributed heavily on special teams.

1999 (Sophomore): Played in 10 games during the season as a reserve halfback and wife receiver...rushed four times for 22 yards, with his longest run being a 13-yard scamper against Austin Peay...also caught one pass for five yards against APSU.

1998 (Redshirt Freshman): Played in three games for the Bulldogs, primarily on special teams.

High School: Was an All-City selection in Marietta, All-Metro in Atlanta and All-Cobb County...rushed for 700 yards on 8.6 yards per carry as a senior...also averaged 36 yards per kickoff return...helped Wheeler to the region championship in track and the sub-region title in football as a senior.

Personal: Born September 23, 1979...son of Norris Thompson and Eunice Byrd...majoring in sociology.
